The depth of it

Obama has cast a stone into the lake of human history; its effects will ripple forward and back.  For as long as we write, we will write about this day.

Rod Dreher writes:

he modern conservative movement began with the crushing defeat of Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater in the 1964 presidential race. The modern conservative movement ends with the crushing defeat of Arizona Sen. John McCain — who took Goldwater’s Senate seat upon his retirement — in the 2008 presidential race.

2. Modern liberalism began its implosion with riots in Chicago’s Grant Park at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Tonight, modern liberalism is reborn at Chicago’s Grant Park, where a black Chicago Democrat will celebrate winning the presidency.

To which I would add: Lincoln, a renewed promise of unity, and shattered Southern hatred.

Thank Mr. Mendel for pondering peas

Most misread rap, and most rap fans will detest this video. Which is dangerous; rhythm and rhyme hammer home more than plainly put phrases. They can do more — just ask Mr. Poe.

The longest post

What’s this all about?  The Compendium is where I practice getting the most from the least; to be pithy, observant, and picky all at the same time.  I write, but I hate words.  My favorite writing is terse, and loads as much meaning onto words as their shaky little legs can carry.

Why not Twitter?  Well, Twitter:

is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

You don’t want to know what I’m doing; It’s boring.  I don’t care to tell you, either; that’s boring.  Here is what you will find, once this place is totally live:

  • Frequent one sentence posts of observations and descriptions.
  • Frequent quotes selected for their powerful use of words.

Enjoy!
